Performance evaluations

I got my performance evaluation a few weeks ago.

VMware’s employee rating system has the following choices:

  • Exceptional
  • Outstanding
  • Great
  • Needs Improvement
  • Unsatisfactory

Supposedly I’m doing “great”, but I’m not sure if that means I’m actually doing great or if that means I don’t need improvement. The lack of a “mediocre”/“adequate”/“satisfactory” rating throws things off.

  1. Who cares? You’re doing great! Sounds like grade inflation in the workplace to me.

  2. They have to make everyone feel like they’re doing a good job in order to keep morale up. “Great” is probably the worst possible score. I’d start looking for another job if I were you.
